After sneaking out of Brennanâs apartment, Miranda had rushed back to her cabin to shower and change clothes. She held onto some hope that it would help her calm her thoughts, but it proved to be a fruitless effort. Semi defeated, she curled up in her bed and tried to force herself back to sleep. It worked for about two hours or so, though she woke up feeling more exhausted than before. Even resorting to tackling the cabin counselor chore list she rarely touch as a method of distraction, she finally broke and decided she couldnât take it anymore and left her cabin once again. Immediately, her feet started back down the path into town. Â
However, the closer she got to the apartments, she felt nerves start to flutter around in her stomach, making her halt in her tracks and desperately tried to figure out what to do next. The only thing she could think of was to change direction and whip her phone out of her pocket and quickly made a call.  Miranda was fully sure if she sounded more desperate or demanding over the phone, but regardless found herself waiting for her sister at the diner only a few minutes later. Tucked into the corner booth, she stared at the coffee mug her hands were wrapped around, clearly lost in thought as the front door of the building jingled to signal a new customer entering.Â

Macey shook her head, âI definitely was being dramatic, and so are you. And thatâs okay.â She took another large bite of her breakfast before continuing, âI donât want to sound like my fucking therapist, but, itâs okay to like, feel thingsâMind-blowing advice, I know. And sometimes, feeling big things means being a little dramatic about it.â She didnât know where this stupidly sage advice was coming from, but, itâs what she wouldâve wanted to hear back then, too. âIf you have a potentially big, fat, C-word on this person, then just like, sit with it for a while and try to figure your shit out before you doâor not doâanything else about it.â
Miranda was surprised at the wisdom coming from her older sister. âWhen the fuck did you go and get a psychology degree?â Cracking a smile for the first time this entire conversation, she couldnât deny that the words helped her. It was reassuring - though she expected nothing less from talking to Macey, to hear out loud that it was okay from the person who went through the same thing years ago.  âI know, I know. I just need to figure my shit out before I implode.â After a minute, Miranda pulled her plate closer to her and attempted a small bite of her food.  âThanks, Mace.âÂ
